More Boom Blocks

And I'm still making them - running on a roll here. :) I finished up bookworms Mardi Gras block - she said that some embellishments are OK. And since I was in the Mardi Gras theme, I picked another fabric that reminded me of Mardi Gras too, so I ran with that.

For bookworm - the finished version:

This one is for quiltin'gran - group North. The red is really more of a fuchsia hand-dye that I got in Lancaster, PA. I'm not a huge fan of batik, but I thought the hand-dye would work really well in pulling out the fuchsia in her focus fabric. Hope I succeeded in making something she'd like.

And this one is for AngieS. She's in group North. She sent the fish scale fabric. I know it's an oriental theme fabric, but I kept thinking fish scales. So I picked the nautical theme, and my DH picked the civil war reproduction fabric that I've had since the Rag Shop was around.

Week 22: May 29-June 4, 2011

Can't believe that it's almost June, and by the end of this week, it will be JUNE! Finally, great weather is on the way, and after this winter it's totally welcome.

After looking through some art books for quilting inspiration, finally decided on this weeks theme. Lets all be FAMOUS! You pick what it means. Does it mean a celebrity? A famous architect? Famous artist? Do you want to be FAMOUS? Have you always wanted to copy one of the 'masters'? Here's your chance!

Hostess Gift

We got invited last minute to a Memorial Day party, so I wanted to surprise our friend with an apron. I made her one for Christmas since she LOVES to cook, and I know she adores the Broncos, so this is another apron for everyday use. And I made it reversible.

I can't wait to see her face! She's got no idea this is coming. :)

More Boom Blocks for Today so far

Well, I missed the postman today but I did manage to get 3 blocks made in the span of about 2 hours. I'll be getting more done this weekend, I'm planning on getting at least 4 more done tonight, and then three or four tomorrow.

I made this one for roseysue. She sent the super cute pansy fabric. When I opened up her envelope with her F8, I started to laugh because I had just purchased the same fabric and I almost sent it out as my fabric for the Boomerang swap too! I didn't send it out though. :)

This one is for KathyN. She sent the blue batik. I didn't have any batik in my stash and had to go out and get this matching fabric. I'm still NOT a fan of batik. I thought that doing this block might change my mind about batik, but I still find it super scratchy, hard to work with and hard to sew. Hope Kathy likes it!

Brenda5 sent the funky dog fabric. I actually received it this morning, and made the block later this afternoon. She's going to be making a quilt for her grandson with this fabric. I really hope the likes it. I had a ton of fun with the block.

**EDIT** I finished two more blocks and I'm about 40% done with one other one.
This one is for HobbyKat1955. She sent the super cute tea fabric, but it had a lot going on, and I wanted to "calm" it down a little bit.

This block is going to Nurse Bonnie. She sent the Christmas paisley fabric and asked that we add glittery fabric. As soon as I got the fabric out of the envelope I just knew that I had the perfect matching fabric. I'm so happy with the way the block came out.

And this lovely is going to be for Bookworm. Bookworm sent a Mardi Gras fabric (stripes) and I messaged her to ask if I could embellish her fabric - she agreed. So I still have to applique it down and add some ribbon and rick rack. It was the flash on the camera that washed out the background fabric, but it really is purple, not blue.

And these are the blocks that I received.
This one is from Goldendog55. I just love it.

This one is from Fromzstore. How cool is this block??!!

And this beautiful block is from PokerDiva. My jaw dropped when I opened the envelope and saw this block. Took my breath away. I'm so happy to now have one of PokerDiva's blocks. It will look so fantastic in the quilt I'm planning.

2 More Boom South Blocks Sent

Mailed out!
For Shaysmema:
She sent the floral and asked for no white or black. I honestly accommodated her request, the fabric I added is really cream, but I couldn't get a good picture of it. There was a CRAP ton of pressing with this (I didn't want the seams to mess up or have dark show up behind the light!) and my Rowenta iron got some steam work out. But, I think it's all worth it in the end.

For Oatw13:
I love this block.. honestly. :)

Boom 5 - Sent and Received!

I got 2 blocks completed for the Boomerang swap last night.
This one is for Cherrio:
She sent the black and white fabric, and asked for either pink, black, white or gray fabrics to be added. I had this awesome pink that has sparkles in it.

This one is for CarolHupp:
She sent the green background fabric. The first thing that I thought of when I pulled her fabric out of the envelope was that I had the perfect yellow to go with it. I wanted a simple block, so I went with a favorite standby: Shoo Fly.

This is my journal for the Boomerang swap. I'm keeping a record of blocks that I send out and ones that I receive. I'm planning on keeping it with the quilt when it's folded up and not on our bed.

This block is from VaNella. She included a small note that the fabric I sent reminded her of her favorite shirt she wore in the 70's. Never thought of it that way, but I guess it does. :D

This one is from paintmejudy. Love the shades of brown that she used. This is going to be one heck of an awesome fall/autumn quilt.

This is from Moonrise. I love it - awesome work. I really think she showed off the fabric.

Week 21: May 22-28, 2011

The weather is getting warmer, it's almost summer and I'm spending more and more time outside. Sometimes I just want to sit and look out the window. It's beautiful to watch nature and kids playing and just life go by.

We've got a new THEME: Through the Window Frame

Week 20: May 15-21, 2011

No idea what to do this week, so my DH suggested a monochromatic quilt. That's what this week is going to be!

MONOCHROMATIC

Boomerang 5.0 - Let the Craziness Begin

I'm in 2 groups for Boomerang 5.0 this summer! That means I get 70 squishys in the mail, and send 70 grown up blocks back to their mommies. :) I'm so excited.
This is my fabric for Boomerang 5.0 - SOUTH group:

And this is one of the two I picked for Boomerang 5.0 - NORTH.

And for the GROWN-UP blocks completed so far:
This one is going back to LovingIzabella

And this one is going to fromzstore:

Week 19: May 8-14, 2011

Who says that you can't try something new every week? Or try something that you're not sure you're good at? That's why I'm trying these miniature quilts - to practice and hone my skills. I'm not perfect, but I'm going to try to keep getting better. Every little bit helps.

I'm working on my Dear Jane quilt, and must say that I started out hating applique, but I'm slowly getting better with it. I'm not sure that I'll ever have the patience to do a Baltimore Album quilt, but slowly I'm liking applique better.

This weeks theme is APPLIQUE. The mini quilt has to have applique somewhere on it. It can be all applique or just a little bit. Do what you feel comfortable doing!

Week 18: May 1-7, 2011

One of my all time favorite blocks is the Dresden Plate. It's not a really tough block once you get the hang of making it. I love them all, curved blades, pointed, round. They're just so much fun.

THEME: Dresden Plate.

If you've never made one before, I have to warn you - they're totally addictive, and they'll be absolutely gorgeous as a table topper, or table runner.

Here are a few links to free Dresden Plate patterns. I'm always looking for them!
